After dedicating more than 10 years in nutrition education as a Program Coordinator, Carissa was excited to join the Blue Zones Project team as the Community Engagement Lead for Central Maui, allowing her to expand her reach on health and well-being. She is also thrilled about bringing the community together in a collaborative effort to help Maui become a healthier, happier place to live. Prior to joining Blue Zones Project – Central Maui, she served various roles as a Nutrition Educator and Coordinator for the University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension Services and volunteered for the Maui Humane Society and the Maui Family YMCA. Carissa received her B.S. in Food Science and Human Nutrition and her M.Ed. in Higher Educational Administration from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She loves spending time with her husband and their two kids, Chasen and Maia. In her free time, she enjoys working out, cooking, and getting together with family and friends – especially over a meal. Working for Blue Zones Project has allowed her to live her purpose of building up others, while leaving a legacy of a healthful life and civic duty for her kids.
